Ellen Elizabeth 'Betty Nell' (Hamel) Dolan

Dolan, Ellen Elizabeth "Betty Nell" (Hamel) 92, of Bloomington, MN, died on June 8, 2022 surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom and daughter, Therese; grandson, Mateo; parents, Arnold and Lucy Hamel (Gibbs); siblings, Mary Clare (Herb) Ryan, Joe (Katie) Hamel, Bob (Mary Frances) Hamel, Anne (Bill) Hickey, John Hamel, Jim Hamel, Arnold Hamel, and Virginia (Tom) O'Connor. Survived by her sister, Lucy Wilhoit; and in-laws, Rick Wilhoit, Mary Scallen, Katie Hamel, Jean Dolan, Bill and Marlene Dolan, and many nieces and nephews. Her love lives on in her beloved children, Tim, Cathy Dolan (Dan O'Brien), Mike (Lori), Debbi (Wayne) Wulf, Paul (Linda), Anne (Terry) Hughes, and Mark (Jennifer); 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Betty Nell was born in Minneapolis, MN in 1929 and was the 8th of 10 children. She attended Incarnation Grade School, The Academy of Holy Angels, and St. Mary's Hospital Radiology School. She met the man of her dreams on a blind date. They were married in 1955 and spent 65 beautiful years together. She was blessed with 8 children who were the primary focus of her life. She was a strong woman with a big heart, strong values, and a commitment to volunteering in the community. She was a long-time member of Annunciation parish in Minneapolis. She was involved at the school and active in the church choir for many years. She loved to play tennis and golf, was an amazing cook, great friend, and gifted singer. She enjoyed traveling and planned many memorable family vacations. Her favorite place was the family cabin on Whitefish Lake in northern Minnesota. Her love for Whitefish began as a child and she passed on her love for the cabin to her kids and grandkids. She cherished her relationships with friends, especially her high school gang and the GABS. A special thanks to the amazing staff at Friendship Village and Grace Hospice. Memorials suggested in lieu of flowers to the Academy of Holy Angels or the League of Catholic Women. Visitation on Tuesday, June 14, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Gill Brothers, 5801 Lyndale Avenue S. Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, June 15, at 11:00 am at Annunciation Church, 509 W 54th Street in Minneapolis, with visitation before from 10:00-11:00 am.
