Swanson, Kathleen Laurie 81, of Minneapolis, passed away December 22, 2021. Kathy was born March 30, 1940, in Minneapolis. She attended Folwell grade school and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Kathy was active in sports throughout her life and was always willing to try something new. She played softball, racquetball and enjoyed running outside. Kathy was in bowling leagues, often winning best average. When she was a member at Town and Country Club, she won two golf championships. Although competitive in both, she really just liked being around friends and having fun. Kathy was a successful real estate agent for many years. She loved working with her clients and helped them buy and sell their homes. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Doug, especially to the North Shore, where they spent their honeymoon 61 years ago. They would fly to Boston and New York City just for lunch, returning the same day. Many years, they would spend a week playing many rounds of golf at Peter's Sunset Beach in Glenwood. They frequently visited Texas, Ohio and California to visit their grandchildren and flying to Chicago for Christmas shopping. One of Kathy's favorite things to do was to sit on a bench and people watch at Lake Harriet. She also enjoyed working the daily crossword puzzle. Kathy's real passion was spending time with her four grandchildren. She rarely missed a hockey or baseball game or a concert and loved watching them as they grew older. She was a wonderful grandma and her grandchildren adored her immensely. Kathy was a wife, mom, grandma and best friend and we will dearly miss her bright smile, laugh and kindness. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Wealshire of Bloomington and Brighton Hospice for the care they gave her. Kathy is preceded in death by parents, Alfred and Clarice Fitz and son, Rick. She is survived by loving husband of 61 years, Doug, son, Randy, daughter, Kelly, and grandchildren, Nicole, Hannah, Matthew and Grant.
