Collopy, Harriet Darling 83, of Makawao, HI, formerly of St. Paul, passed away at home on September 15, 2021. She was deeply loved by her family and many friends for her cheerful nature, warmth, and authenticity. Her initial plan for her life, being a nun, didn't work out. Her future husband, Bob, had a similar experience: after being a Christian Brother for 10 years he realized that it wasn't the right path for him. Soon after he left the Brothers, Harriet was leading the singing for a mass he attended and he was so enchanted by her voice that he introduced himself to her immediately afterward. They were inseparable for the next 56 years. She had an impossibly positive outlook and saw the best in everyone. But underneath her sweetness was a keen awareness of injustice, which she fought where she could, joining boycotts and deliberately getting arrested at protests and social justice demonstrations. She and Bob sang together in choruses for many years, volunteered together for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and grew even closer as life began to slow down for her. Throughout her activism, her career as a social worker, and her pursuit of many interests in her full life, she was an extraordinary mother, always there for her children. She is survived by her husband Bob, her sons Kevin and David, daughters Annie (and husband Spencer) and Ellen (and husband Dylan), brother David Darling, sister-in-law Sam Darling, and many nieces and nephews.
