Lovold, Dr. Dean Leonard, DDS of New London, MN passed away unexpectedly at St Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND on 6/18/2021. Dean Leonard Lovold was born on July 20, 1933 in Waseca, MN to Dr Leonard and Ruth Melin Lovold. He attended grade school and high school in Waseca. He graduated with honors in 1951. Following high school, he attended Gustavus Adolphus College for pre-dental education and then transferred to the University of Minnesota, graduating with a DDS degree in 1958. His first practice was in Starbuck, MN and later St Cloud, MN. Dean was drafted into the Army in 1962 and served two years as Assistant Chief of the Smoke Bomb Hill Dental Clinic.in Ft Bragg, North Carolina. Following discharge in 1964, he accepted a position at the Willmar Regional Treatment Center where he worked for thirty-two years, retiring in 1997. Dean married Joanne Hagen on July1, 1961. To this marriage, was born three children, Kurt, Craig, and Janel. They later divorced in 1985. Dean married Mariette LaPoint on July 31, 1993. They made their home on Nest Lake in Spicer, MN for 32 years. Dean loved birding and nurturing and filming wood ducks. He built many wood duck houses, placed them in his yard and eagerly awaited for their return in the Spring of the year. Dean was methodical in monitoring his boxes and kept a daily record of eggs, predicted hatch day, and number of successful jumps. He and Mariette joined the Minnesota Wood Duck Society and attended meetings every year at the Wargo Nature Center. Dean and Mariette loved to travel and often scheduled trips with the Rustad Tours out of Kerkhoven, MN It's ironic that Dean and Mariette's last days together were on a bus trip to Medora, ND. Their last day was spent on a pleasant boat ride and dinner on the Missouri River. On the day of departure, June 18, 2021, Dean experienced a severe onset of breathing difficulty. He was transferred to St Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND where he passed away of heart failure. Dean is survived by his wife, Mariette of New London, MN, son Kurt (Amy) Lovold of Buffalo, MN, Son, Craig (Linda) Lovold Spicer, Janel (Brent) Schuenke of Willmar, MN, stepsons, David and Michael LaPoint of Paynesville, MN, Craig (Linda) Lovold of Spicer, MN and stepdaughter, Dionne Curren (Kevin Smith) of University Place, WA. Grandchildren: Austin, Sydney, Zoey, Zach, Lauren, Ella, Oliver Lovold add Reese and Rachael Schuenke and step grandchildren, Immanuelle, Sam, Isabel, Jordan and Yani Lapoint. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Janet Johnson Hersch and Ramona Lovold Hawkinson. Funeral services were held on July 15, 2021 at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer, MN. Internment of last remains will take place on Oct.1, 2021 at 11:00am at Fort Snelling Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
