Janet P. 'Jan' (Elton) Gustafson

Gustafson (Elton), Janet P. "Jan" was born on May 17, 1927 in South Dakota. She was the youngest of 14 children of Nils and Mattia, she had 11 brothers and 2 sisters. By the age of two, she lost both of her parents, and she was then raised by her oldest sister, Esther. Jan graduated from New Effington High School and moved to Vanport, Oregon. She married Charles Bengel, but unfortunately, Charles died young of a brain tumor. Moving back to the Midwest, Jan worked as a secretary/receptionist for a law firm. Jan married Robert Gustafson on April 23, 1955 and they had 2 sons, Robin and Rodney. Jan retired early to pursue a life of domestic challenges and raising 2 very active sons. She enjoyed a variety of volunteer opportunities at her church including teaching Sunday school and release time Sunday school. She enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, walking, and sewing alterations, going out to eat, playing cards on the computer, and thrift store shopping. She was happiest being with friends and family. Jan is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Robert; 2 grandchildren, Eric and Sandra; 6 great- grandchildren, and numerous friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her 2 sons, Robin and Rodney. Her cheerful countenance will be missed by many. Funeral Service 10am Tuesday October 5that Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel, West 50th St. at Hwy 100, Edina. Visitation one hour prior to services. Interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
