Mitby, Robert Clare Born September 22, 1935, died peacefully from complications of Alzheimer's Disease on June 9, 2021. Bob grew up in Minneapolis, graduating from South High and the University of Minnesota where he studied sociology. He served in the Army in Germany and used the G.I. Bill to earn a master's degree in social work at Washington University in Saint Louis. Bob worked as a family therapist for Catholic Charities in Saint Paul. He was known for his compassionate, professional counseling. These were memorable years in which he made lifelong friendships, enjoying many fishing trips with friends. Always drawn to northern Minnesota, Bob eventually fulfilled his dream and moved to Lake Eshquagama on the Iron Range where he and Monica established a welcoming home as he continued practicing social work at the Range Mental Health Center. Their friendly competition about their distinctly different heritage became a highlight of their married life when they visited Norway and Ireland in the same year and agreed they were both equally beautiful. Physically very strong, Bob loved biking and skiing. Throughout his life he volunteered in the community, in the Ski Patrol and the Meals-on-Wheels Program. A lover of good food, he cooked meals for the Peace House Community and the Salvation Army. Well-known for his love of banter and sense of humor, Bob was a favorite of staff at Saint Anthony Park Home where he spent his last months. A modest man, he accepted his frailty despite its relentlessness. He was comforted by the devotion of his loving wife, Monica and his three daughters. Preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Clarence Mitby, his brother, Roger, former wife, LaVerne. Survived by Monica Delaney Mitby, daughters Wendy (Chris Gaertner), Suzanne (Dan Pederson), and Kelly O'Leary (Mike Hennen); sisters, Marilyn Olson, Carole Larson, and Pat Mitby; grandchildren, Peter, Maria, Cameron, Duncan, Lorna, Greta, Quinn, Sarah; stepchildren, Molly, Cynthia, Jane, Amy, and Daniel and their children, Allison, Will, Hannah, David, Ava, Max, and June; in-laws, Kathleen (Jim Jolin), Pat Delaney (Kitty), Mary Delaney, Mary Kay Delaney.
