Mortenson, Thomas Eric On Tuesday, June 1, 2021, Eric Mortenson, age 68, loving husband and father, died at Fairview Hospital in Mpls., MN, with his family at his side. Eric was born December 27, 1952 at "The Little Hospital" in Anoka, MN to Tom and Jeanne (Birong) Mortenson. In his early 20s, Eric started learning carpentry, and later formed Eric Mortenson Construction, focusing his efforts and talents on building decks and 3-season porches. He went on to win numerous awards for his creations, even receiving national attention for his designs and craftsmanship. He loved working with wood: "When your work becomes art, and you're really focusing on quality and beauty, the rest of it takes care of itself." Eric also had a passion for travel and in 2004 he began taking winter trips to Southeast Asia; it was in Thailand that he met his wife, Blessing. In 2007 they married and quickly brought their two girls to join them in NE Minneapolis. When Eric wasn't working or at home with his family and friends, you would find him fishing. From catching sunnies on Lake Minnetonka to going for the walleyes at Lake of the Woods, Eric loved being in a boat on the water with a pole, and a bucket of bait. He is survived by his wife, Blessing, and two daughters, Yok and Ploy; his two sisters, Sally Higgins and Jane Mortenson; his brother, Jon Mortenson; and nephews, Michael and Brad Higgins, and Nicholas Mortenson; and niece, Christine Erickson-Clinton. Eric is preceded in death by his father, Tom, mother, Jeanne, sister, Ann, and brother, Nicholas.
