Clemants, Emi Rodriguez died peacefully in her sleep on January 8, 2021 at the age of 39. She is survived by her family in Minnesota, Bob Clemants and Frankie Clemants (10), as well as two other children living in Colombia who also knew her as Mom, Camillo (22), and Samuel (18). She is also survived by her mother Blanca, father Heriberto, four siblings, Sandra, Edwin, Natalia, Albeiro living in Colombia. Last but not least, Kirby, the four-legged love of her life, whom she affectionately called "Chiva". Emi was born and grew up in Bogota, Colombia where she lived until her mid-twenties. She first came to the United States through an exchange program where she attended a camp in Brainerd, Minnesota. She visited off and on for several years before making it her home about 15 years ago and more recently becoming a citizen. Emi was a wonderful and gifted teacher, specifically teaching languages. She was fluent in 5 languages (Spanish, English, French, Italian, Portuguese) and her degree from the University of Minnesota was in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Emi was in the process of attaining her Master's degree. As a child, she struggled to learn English (her first second language) but that didn't stop her from going on and learning 5 more languages. In fact, it probably enhanced her ability to teach others. Emi lived her life as a dreamer and risk taker. She pushed the boundaries of what was possible and visualized the future she wanted. Throughout Emi's childhood she dreamt about traveling throughout the world. She knew if she made it to Minnesota, she would be able to go anywhere. She visited 40 countries before turning 40 years old and literally flew around the world heading east and returning from the west. Trying new things and seeing new places was something she was passionate about. She was an avid traveler who not only flew on planes, she jumped out of them skydiving, and even took a flying lesson. Emi knew how to combine her skills in life and in 2018, she took a job in the Middle Eastern country of Jordan. She lived there for two months earning income as a teacher, continued to broaden her experiences in life, and began learning Arabic as her 6th language. Emi always moved towards life rather than letting it come to her. She was an optimist with the ability to face adversity and focus her energy on positives. When she was unable to travel, she adapted and focused on painting, often staying up late into the night working on projects and exercising her mind. She loved cooking and trying new foods. She was active in her church and community. Emi's life was exciting to be around, filled with fun, challenges, stories, and adventures. Best of all, she wanted to share her life and experiences with others, blending them into all of our own lives. Emi will be remembered as a person who cared for others and would help anyone in need. She lived her life to give everything she could, including her time, friendship, support, meals, language lessons, and most importantly, her love. She will live forever in our hearts.
