Schaefer, Lana Lou age 74, of Burnsville, passed away in the early morning hours of August 14, 2020, into the loving and gracious arms of the Lord Jesus, pain free, peacefully, and in her sleep. Lana was born on Palm Sunday, April 14th, 1946 to Wilbert (Billy) and Lucile Becker of rural Northrop, MN. She was baptized into the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus on May 5th at St. James Lutheran Church of Northrop, and there made public confirmation of her faith on April 10th, 1960. She attended 8 years of parochial school at St. James elementary in Northrop, followed by 4 years of high school at Granada, MN. During her senior year she was crowned Minnesota's Junior Miss for 1964. From 1964 - 1968 she attended Concordia College in St. Paul, graduating with a BA degree. During her college years she met and eventually married Tim Schaefer on June 29th, 1969. This union was blessed with three sons to whom she was an outstanding mom and for whom she had great love and admiration. She utilized her talents in many other ways: as wife, teacher (school and piano), and in sales (Nationwide Papers, et al), from which she retired in 2009. In the late 1980's she was diagnosed with breast cancer and, by the grace of God, the treatments were successful, allowing her to watch her family grow, get married, and provide her with 6 beautiful grandchildren. She loved them dearly. However, in the year 2016, the cancer returned and this time the treatment did not fully eradicate the cancer that was beginning to take over her body. On July 29th, 2019, she was given 3 months to live by the doctor. She was graced by the Almighty to survive pain free for over a year, during which time she was able to further enjoy the loving presence of her family and friends. The cancer attacked and altered her body, but it did not touch her spirit. That spirit was a testimony and a witness to so many during her life and especially during this last year. Lana is preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert and Lucile Becker, a younger brother Darrell, a sister-in-law Marthe (Arlyn Becker), a niece, Donna (Arlyn and Marthe Becker), a nephew, Tom (husband to niece Holly, daughter of Darrell and Virginia), and a grand nephew, Chase Becker (nephew Dan and Tammy, son of Arlyn and Marthe). She is survived by an older brother, Arlyn (Northrop), her husband, Tim of Burnsville, her three sons, Benjamin (Lindsey) of Chaska, Anthony (Anne) of Champlin, and Joshua of Minneapolis, her 6 grandchildren, Alexis, Olivia, and Ella (Ben and Lindsey), Emma, Madison, and Jeremiah (Anthony and Anne), and by many other friends and relatives too numerous to mention. Many thanks and much appreciation go out to the Fairview Hospice people who provided Lana with such wonderful care, especially Kristen, Maren, Janie, and Anita. A service celebrating the life, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus upon the death of one of His sheep will be held at Shepherd of the Valley LC on September 21. Service time is 11 a.m. Due to Covid, attendance to the service is by invitation only.
