Carol Ann (Peterson) Repp

Repp, Carol Ann (Peterson) of Pequot Lakes passed away at age 81 on August 22 at Essentia St. Joseph's Hospital in Brainerd, Minnesota from cancer with her family at her bedside. She is and has been the "Guiding Light, Northstar and Beacon" for our family. She will now have "Fair Winds and Following Seas" for eternity in Heaven. Carol was born on May 2, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN and lived at 4301 43rd Ave. S. She attended Hiawatha Grade School, Sanford Junior High School and was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School, class of 1957, with honors. She was active in many activities including modeling for Dayton's, member of the National Honor Society, Choir and was affectionately known to her classmates as "Carol Pete." At an early age she was quick to show that speed skating was not just a pastime for the boys and went on to win first place in the Silver Skates junior finals for girls at Powderhorn Park in south Minneapolis. Carol met her husband John, when both worked for the University of Minnesota newspaper, the Minnesota Daily. It was love at first sight for both. They were engaged in San Diego where John was a Naval Officer and married on December 18, 1960 when John was on leave at her home church, Minnehaha Lutheran Church. She left school to be with her husband and returned to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, with honors in 1964. Since she and her husband moved frequently with 3 daughters, she sacrificed her own career to be a stay at home mom but always encouraged her daughters to have a career. Her daughters have a saying, "For everything I am today, my mother's love showed me the way." With each move, she got involved in our Church and community cheerfully volunteering where needed. She always professed loving the Lord with all her heart and soul. Carol and John retired to their lake side residence in 1995 where she relished gardening, the outdoors, and the view of the lake. She was active in her Church, Crosslake Lutheran, involved in many of the women's programs and volunteering where leadership was needed. She was also active at the local American Legion Post Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her father, Russell Peterson, mother, Lucille Hansen, and brother, Alan Peterson. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, John, daughters, Susan (Miguel) Olivas of Turlock, CA, Kristin (Beau) Carney of Anoka, MN, Robyn (TJ) Sekel of Pleasant Hill, CA, and her cherished grandchildren, Aaron Olivas, Danial Olivas, Jacob Olivas, Derek Beers, Kerri Beers, Jack Sekel, Shelby Sekel and step grandchildren Sam Carney and Jade Carney. A memorial service will be held at 1pm on September 18th at the Crosslake Lutheran outdoor worship center (14019 Daggett Pine Road, Crosslake, MN).
