Norling, Mervin "Merv" Lloyd 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at Primrose Retirement Community in Duluth. Merv was born November 1, 1927 near Garfield, MN and enjoyed sharing stories of his upbringing on the family farm. His determination to forge his own path led him to leave home at 14 years old. He worked at a bakery until his graduation from Alexandria High School. Merv enlisted in the Navy in 1946 and served on Guam. After his service, Merv lived in Minneapolis where he met his wife, Donna, and they were married on August 8, 1953. Merv had a successful career as a real estate broker. He enjoyed annual fishing trips to Canada and deer hunting in Northern MN but was most passionate about playing and watching golf. People gravitated toward Merv for his exceptional fun-loving personality and quick wit. Merv is survived by his adoring wife of 66 years, Donna; children, Mark (Linda) Norling, Sue (Mike) Marturano and Sandy (Jeff) Johnson; grandchildren, Nicole Miller, Sara (Levi) Davidson, Becky (Chris) Watt, Ben Norling, Josh Brose, Matt (Katie) Marturano, Andrew Johnson, Rachel (Cameron) Baker, Jacob Johnson; seven great-grand-children; sisters-in-law Margine and Eleanor. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Berniece Walters, twin brother Marvin, brothers Vernon and Romaine; and brother-in-law Les Walters. There will be a private family Celebration of Life followed by internment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. A special thank you to Merv & Donna's wonderful, caring neighbors on Wildwood Road in Bloomington and the staff at Primrose Retirement Community in Duluth.
