Gudmestad, Fern Lucille Died on June 3, 2020, from Covid-19. Fern's life was bookended by two world- wide pandemics, but what happened in between was a life filled with joy, faith, creativity, service, and family. She was born to Emil and Julia Hanson on October 10, 1918, Seattle WA, during the last century's flu epidemic. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Washington in painting and design. She spent her sophomore year at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, MN, where she met her future husband, Reverend Larry Gudmestad. They lived in Bellingham WA and Minot ND before moving to Minneapolis. Fern was an active leader in the Lutheran church. She was the national president of the American Lutheran Church Women from 1981 84. She was a delegate to the World Council of Churches assembly in 1984. She served on boards and committees of Lutheran Social Services, Luther Seminary, Lutheran Bible Institute, Augsburg Women's Club, and Ebenezer Society. Fern was a sought-after speaker at mother-daughter banquets (best known for her doll house talk which she did over 500 times), retreats, and church women conventions. She was awarded the Distinguished Alumnae citation from Augsburg University. In addition to sketching, writing, gardening, family history, traveling, and making greeting cards, Fern maintained a collection of over 20 doll houses which she enjoyed sharing with visitors. Fern is survived by children, Julie Laudicina (Joe), Kim Gudmestad (Kay), and Joan Gudmestad; grandchildren Kai Gudmestad (Amy), Tessa Gudmestad, and Berit Gudmestad Foulks (Patrick); and five great grandchildren: Elijah and Lucille Gudmestad; Cora, Connor, and Emmett Foulks; also survived by her cousin Bill Hanson. She was predeceased by her husband in 1986 and her daughter Jan Tousey (Charley) in 2009. Interment at a later date.
