Elson, Betty Kay Betty Kay Elson of Minneapolis, 80, passed away peacefully on May 24 after a long decline induced by stroke. She was preceded in death by beloved son Geoffrey and brothers Robert and William Robinson. She is survived by Mike, devoted husband of 52 years; sisters-in-law Sarah Fletcher (George) and Maggie Kempel (Craig); nieces Betsy Robinson, Wendy Williams (John) and Nikki Michalak (Brian); nephews Jesse Robinson (Laura), Brad Robinson (Cynthia), Michael Fletcher (Elizabeth), Matthew Kempel (Jane) and Dan Kempel. Born in Lincoln NE, Betty also lived in Des Moines IA and Laramie WY. She was a devoted mother and wife, an avid gardener who loved summertime entertaining and world traveling, and a trusted operations manager of marketing agencies based in Minneapolis and San Francisco. In lieu of services, a 'traditional Betty garden party' will be held later this summer (or when more than 10 people can gather). Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Reflections of Betty Elson: Betty's presence enhanced the world for all who encountered her authentic and unique self. Her wit, her kindness, and her exquisite aesthetic sense pervaded everything she did. We are so grateful to have known this loving mother, constant friend, and creative genius. Donna B. & Family (friends from the Laramie WY days) We'll remember Betty's many artistic talents, her joy of gardening, clever sense of humor, gentle fondness of dogs, and constant love of Mike and Geoffrey. Sarah F. (Mike's sister) As the youngest in what I imagine a long line of Betty admirers, I will forever hold onto the memory of her laugh. A laugh that meant to me a tradition would continue for another year that filled the room and reached deep into everyone's hearts. All my love to Betty as she is finally able to laugh again. Sarah R.F. (in the Elson circle since birth) Betty was the 'heart' of every place she worked. In any crisis or challenge her first thought was always, "what will this mean for the people?" a rare quality in an authentic individual with whom I shared many an adventure. Gail H. (long-time friend and co-worker) Betty was a very creative, strong member of the family. She could relate to different people and lifestyles and yet be down to earth. She helped start many 'new' traditions and always provided support to family and friends. Betty had the ability to listen to others and to help one find their way. Her family, including the dogs and gardens, were her priorities. Maggie K. (Mike's sister) We met Betty and Mike through Gail Henrickson and have treasured them both for many years. Betty had such style, wit, and grace! She had the world's best laugh and the best blue eyes. Her artist's eye made their back yard a northern Eden. We miss her!!! Dean P. and Madeleine H. (Minneapolis friends) I'll always remember Betty for her genuine decency and powerfully understated style, and the great gift of being unintimidating and easy to engage with. I relied on Betty's brightness and judgment for more than five years, when she commuted regularly from Minneapolis to serve as my trusted Operations Manager. Lori R. (Former General Manager, FCB Promotion and Design, San Francisco) Betty was our garden whisperer, advisor, and always generously gave us precious plants to fill our new yard. Over the fence, like days of old, we would chat about all the never-ending yard work and laugh about the mischief of our respective and very loved dogs. Betty graciously and modestly shared her gifts and her joy! We will miss her greatly!!! Jennifer and Herve S. (former Minneapolis neighbors)
