Bye, Barbara Jean (Layeux) 10/26/1934 - 5/27/2020 Barbara Bye of St Anthony MN passed away on Wednesday May 27, 2020. She was 85, a lifelong resident of the Twin Cities. Barb was born in N.E. Minneapolis on October 26, 1934, the first child of Hector and Myrtle Layeux. Graduating from Edison High School in 1953, she created a strong bond of friendship with her classmates that continued to blossom over the next 70 years. Friendships that formed from school classes and activities, trips to dance halls and swim meets transitioned to cabins on Pomroy Lake, annual gatherings at the Central Ave. parade, sewing clubs and weekly Good Will shopping excursions. Barbara Layeux married Tom Bye on January 26, 1957 beginning a very full life together that spanned 61 years. Mom and Dad lived their passions for world travel, antique lighting, continued learning, including 16 years of independent study at the University of St. Thomas. Though Barb's initial venture into the work world was as an X-ray Technician, her true career calling was as a mother raising five children. The skills she developed in that role would have been the envy of an elite drill sergeant. Friends and family defined Barbara. She had a flair for fashion that complimented her strong desire for social gatherings. Those gatherings were opportunities to confidently express herself through visible displays of "HAT-itude". Whether it was family vacations, ski trips, gatherings at the cabin and river, card clubs, golf leagues, treating her grandchildren to trips to D.C and the Children's Theater, giving tours at her beloved French Church (Our Lady of Lourdes) or hosting the traditional family Christmas Eve French dinner, Barb was all in with her commitment to her friends and family. She found joy through them, and was proud of her French Canadian Heritage. Barb is survived by her five children Andrea (Don) Zeman, Anita (David) Seviola, Lisa Barnitt (Ron Beltz), Mike Bye (Alicia) and Mary Kay (Marty) Krogman; seven grand-children and their spouses, ten great grandchildren; sister-in-law LaVaughn Bye; three nieces and nephew and their spouses and two granddogs. She is preceded in death by her husband Tom Bye, parents Hector and Myrtle Layeux, Father and Mother in-law Leonard and Agnes Bye, sister Anita Rocheford, and brother-in-law William Bye. There will be a private family gathering at Our Lady of Lourdes with a private interment at a later date. Memorials are preferred to Our Lady of Peace 2076 St Anthony Avenue St. Paul, MN 55104.
