Johnson, Father Paul OP Father Paul James Johnson (religious name Jude) was born on August 28, 1932, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His parents were Paul Berger Johnson and Catherine Elizabeth Clancy. Father Johnson has an older sister, Mary Virginia Flanagan , and an older brother, Thomas Francis Johnson who is deceased. Father Johnson grew up in Minneapolis-St. Paul. His primary education was at Annunciation Primary School from 1937 to 1946. He attended high school at the Saint Thomas Academy from 1946 to 1950. He attended University of Notre Dame from 1950 to 1952 studying chemical engineering and he continued that study at the University of Minnesota in the summer of 1952. Father Johnson entered the novitiate of Saint Albert the Great Province in August 30, 1952 at Saint Peter Martyr Priory in Winona, Minnesota. He was ordained on May 23, 1959 by Bishop Leo Binz. Paul continued his studies at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque and received his Masters degree in anthropology. He began his service through campus ministry, retreats and workshops at universities and parishes in multiple cities. In 2018, Father's health began to decline. In October he moved to St. Pius V Priory, Chicago, the assisted living community for St. Albert the Great Province. As his health declined in January 2020, he was moved to hospice care at the Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Mary's Home, Chicago, where he died peacefully on May 7, 2020. He loved his extended family, was a devoted uncle and solid role model. He loved the outdoors, reading, golf, & good conversation. He will be dearly missed. Fr. Johnson was cremated and his funeral will be held in Minneapolis at an undetermined date this summer.
