Tommeraasen, Merle Jerome Age 97, of Edina, born June 3, 1922 in Lake City, MN, died May 15, 2020. Preceded in death by parents Albert and Mildred Tommeraasen, sister Mildred Johnson (William), brother Courtney, nephew Scott Johnson, niece Elizabeth Beer (Larry), great-nephew Eric Tommeraasen, ex-wife Ruth Tommeraasen, and numerous close friends. Survived by daughter Mary Gunderson (Bruce), granddaughter Rachel Karsjens (David), grandson Joshua Gunderson, great-grandchildren Elijah, Luke, and Naomi Karsjens, sister-in-law Karen Tommeraasen, great-niece Karna Bowers (Mark), great-nephews Christopher, David, and Adam Johnson (their mother Peggy Johnson and their respective families). Merle graduated from Washburn High School in 1941. He attended the U of MN graduating from the University College, The Wisconsin School of Banking, in 1947 with a BS in Business Engineering; a Math Major and a Business Minor. During his college years, he was commissioned in the US Navy, in the Engineering Department, on two aircraft carriers; The USS Bogue, a CV9 Escort Carrier during WWII, and The USS Leyte, a CV32 Attack Carrier in the Korean War. He experienced extensive travel to Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, Canada, and Alaska. He retired from the US Navy as Lieutenant Commander after 17 years. He worked with the Norwest Bank Corporation, now known as Wells Fargo and retired as Senior Vice President at Second Norwest National Bank, after 36 years in the banking industry. Merle's interests included hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, and volunteering 13 years at Fairview Southdale Hospital. Always interested in others, he shared humorous stories of his own. A loving and considerate individual; he had friendships lasting over 50 years. As a father, he cared and loved deeply. He loved unconditionally through instruction; modeling his knowledge and abilities. He was thoughtful, caring, gracious, and grateful for family and friends.
