Judith Barbara (Mellin) Colby

Colby, Judith Barbara (Mellin) Age 81, of Edina, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, January 18, 2020. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Howard & Katherine Mellin & her eldest son, Dr. Richard Colby. Judy is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Charles Colby; son, Robert Colby (Renee), grandchildren, Austin Colby and Charles Colby; son, John Colby; and daughter- in-law, Dina Colby Tselepis (Peter Tselepis), grandson, Landon Colby Tselepis and step-grandchildren, Luke Tselepis and Aemi Tselepis. Also surviving is her brother, Michael Mellin (Gergana); nephews, Christopher Mellin and Justin Mellin (Kimberly). Judy was born in Minot, North Dakota on January 1, 1939. Her family soon relocated to Minneapolis. Judy met her husband of 58 years, Chuck, when she was in 9th grade. Judy graduated from Southwest High School in 1957, continued her education at the University of Minne- sota where she was a proud member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. In the summer of 1961, Judy was crowned Minneapolis Aquatennial Queen. Representing the state of Minnesota in this capacity was truly an honor. Judy enjoyed sharing her love of cooking especially with family and friends. Chuck and Judy loved to travel-cabin time up north and getaways to Mazatlán, provided cherished memories. Community and family were hallmarks for Judy. She served on the boards of the Edina Federation of Woman and The Courage Center. She is so loved and will be greatly missed, but we take comfort in knowing she is with her Lord. A celebration of life memorial service will be held Thursday, January 30th at 11am (visitation 10-11am) at Mt Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Ave. S., Mpls. 55419 The family is grateful for the loving care provided by the staff at Park Shore and NC Little Hospice in Edina.
