Baker, David Mason Age 93, of Bloomington, MN, formerly of Edina, MN, and Peoria, AZ, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 25. Preceded in death by his parents, Emory Peleg Baker and Louise Woods Williams Baker; brothers, Jack and Allen; sisters Anne and Sally; grandson, Ian Buie; and beloved wife of 67 years, Barbara Brooke Baker. David joined the Merchant Marine at age 17 and served as a radio operator in World War II and beyond aboard the SS Wilbur O Atwater, SS Mankato Victory, MS Tidewater Associated, and USAT Simon Bolivar Buckner. He graduated from Stanford University with a B.S. in petroleum engineering. During the Korean War, he served as a Lieutenant, Ordinance Officer in the US Navy. David began his civilian career at Standard Oil, then moved into the emerging field of computers and held management positions at Cedar Engineering, Control Data, his own import/export company Techport, Amphe-nol, and National Computer Systems. As WB0SFF, he maintained the tallest radio tower in Edina and communicated with radio operators around the world. He volunteered with Handi Hams; counseled small business owners through SCORE and mentored small business owners in Egypt, Slovakia and Sri Lanka through the International Executive Service Corps. David met the love of his life, Barbara, at their college freshman mixer. Together they raised four children, traveled extensively, participated in book clubs, were founding members of the cooperative North Shore Camp in Lutsen, MN, and were active members of St. Alban's Church in Edina and All Saints of the Desert in Peoria. David will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his children, John (Malee) Baker, Catherine (Gregory Sherrard) Baker, Carolyn Reser, and Susan (Brad) Buie; grandchildren Marissa (Sora), Corinne and Isabel Buie, Caroline and Veronica Sherrard, Matthew and Raquel Reser, and Matinee and Lalita Baker; and faithful dog Buddy. Services will be held Veteran's Day, Monday, November 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Edina, MN. Memorials preferred to St. Alban's.
