Johnson, Walter H. "Cork", Jr. Age 91 of Minneapolis. Died on September 24, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ruby Johnson. Walter grew up in Southeast Minneapolis, attended Marshall High School and the University of Minnesota. He graduated from the University with BA, MA, and PhD degrees in Physics. After working for a year at GE in Schenectady, NY, he returned to a faculty position at the University and lived in the same neighborhood in which he had grown up. In addition to his research, he served in Administrative positions at the Institute of Technology, and also was recognized as an outstanding teacher. He retired in 1993 and served on the Board of Faculty Retirement Volunteers as well as on the board of the community organization of Southeast Seniors. Additional retirement interests for him included summers at the family lake cabin, building wooden boats and other art projects, sailing and canoeing, and extensive travel with his wife. Survived by his wife, Harriet; sons, Bradford, and Lee (Jessica); grandchildren, Alexander and Sydney; and brother, Bruce (Debbie), as well as nieces, nephews and many friends. Memorial service Saturday, October 19th, at 2 PM at the University Baptist Church, 1219 University Avenue SE, Minneapolis.
