Runyan, David Todd Age 86, formerly of Edina, MN passed away July 18th, 2019 in Altamonte Springs, Florida. David was the son of Methodist missionaries and was born Nov. 8th, 1932 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaya. David graduated from Independence, Kansas High School and Junior College where he lettered in basketball and golf before attending Kansas University. He served in the Army for two years and graduated from KU in 1958 with a degree in Architecture. He worked for several prominent Minneapolis architectural firms before establishing his own firm, David Todd Runyan & Associates, in 1973. During his 42 years in the Minneapolis architectural community David served in many important roles including President of the MN AIA and Board Member of the MN Architectural Foundation. In 1984, his firm became the Runyan/Vogel Group, specializing in office buildings, shopping centers, housing and industrial projects. David and his wife, Audrey, were long time residents of Edina where he served on the Edina Planning Commission and Edina Board of Appeals for 30 years. Boards and memberships included Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, Braemar Golf Course, Rotary, Edina Historic Preservation Committee and Walker Art Center. After the death of his wife of 44 years, David met Cecily Crossman of Altamonte Springs and they married in 2009. They spent their retirement traveling, playing golf and enjoying many cultural activities. David was an artist who donated many of his works to charitable causes. He and Cecily were active members of First United Methodist Church of Winter Park, FL where he made many wonderful friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Marcelle Runyan; wife, Audrey and sister, Suzanne Moore. He is survived by his wife, Cecily Crossman Runyan; daughter, Laurie (Charles) Yorke, son, Jeff (Mel) Runyan; grandchildren, Alex, Charlie and William. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, devoted grandfather, loyal friend and lover of life. We loved him dearly and he will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. Memorial Services were held Saturday, July 27th 2019 at First United Methodist Church of Winter Park.
