Lawrence M. Poston, MD
Poston, Lawrence M MD Lawrence Marmon Poston, of Bloomington, passed away September 3, 2019 while in hospice at Walker Methodist Care Suites in Edina, MN. He was 84 years old. Larry was an Eagle Scout and played the cornet. He graduated from Cathedral HS in St. Cloud, MN in 1953. He attended St. John's University from 1953-55 and then completed his undergraduate degree in 1959 after serving as a Medic in the Army from 1955-57. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Minnesota in 1963. He married Vera Thelen on September 5, 1960 and they had 5 children. Larry was a Board Certified family physician in solo practice in Caledonia, MN from 1964-86 where he was active in the community. Larry was active in the Minnesota Medical Association (MMA) throughout his career and served as President 1988-89. He joined Hennepin Faculty Associates in 1986 and then the University of Minnesota Medical School Family Practice Department in 1988 and retired from there in 2002. In retirement he volunteered at several free clinics until 2008. On a personal level, Larry was a man of many interests and talents. He enjoyed bird watching, politics, gambling, woodworking, reading, crossword puzzles, cars, motorcycles, horses, travel, sports, good conversations and loved music of all kinds. He never met a stranger and kept his friends for life. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend to all. Larry is survived by his wife, Vera; children, Anne Annis (Craig), John Poston (Nancy), Mary Hargis (Matt), Sarah Pieper (Jon), Karl Poston (Jennifer); and grandchildren, Justin, Allyson, Lindsey and Mark Poston, Rachel Merriman, Claire, Sophie and Tate Pieper, Nicholas and Thomas Hargis, Tonya Milliken and many family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, and sister. Larry donated his body to science at the University of Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Bridging or the Union Gospel Mission. Mass of Christian Burial Mon., Sept. 23, 11 AM at St. Edward's Catholic Church, 9401 Nesbitt Ave S, Bloomington.
