Hirtz, Gerold G. "Jerry" At the age of 92, Gerold "Jerry" Hirtz peacefully passed away on January 17, 2019. Jerry was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, son of the late John "Jack" and Della Hirtz, who moved his family to Minneapolis, MN in the 30's. Jerry was an only child, graduated from Minneapolis Central High School where he was a gifted three sport athlete. Shortly after graduation and before enlisting, Jerry met his wife, Elizabeth "Bette" Hirsch. In 1944, Jerry became a proud member of the US Marine Corp, 3rd Division during WWII, serving on Bougainville, Guam, and lwo Jima. While in the service, Jerry and Bette exchanged letters that will be cherished forever. At the end of his enlistment Jerry served as an MP and played on the Marine baseball team. When he returned after serving his country, Jerry was invited to try out for the then New York Giants. Shortly after, he married his letter writing sweetheart on July 3rd, 1948, graduated as an architectural engineer on the GI Bill then worked his way to VP of Crown Iron Works and president of Flour City Ornamental Iron Works. Past board member of Annunciation Catholic Church and Mendakota Country Club. During their 70 years of marriage, Jerry and Bette were blessed with two sons, Steven Michael and Thomas Michael (Joanne); grandchildren, Damian (Cristina) Hirtz, Alison (David) Wirth, Ashley (Terrence) McPartlin, Jennifer Severson, David (Lindsay) Hirtz, Daniel Hirtz and eleven great-grandchildren, Brennan, Behran, Isabel, Lyla, Franklin, Cole, Grady, Shaamy, Cleo, Coco, Rex and many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Theresa "Taffy" Hirtz. Jerry was an avid bowler and golfer, playing golf well into his seventies.Most importantly, Jerry's love and dedication to the family will never be forgotten. His influence upon the family members and motto of family first lives on as well as the special relationships and memories he gave to his family.
