Schwedes, Joseph Our wonderful Joseph, age 44, died Friday, January 4, 2019. He was preceded in death by his four grandparents; aunt, Sandy Smith; and uncle, Jim Patterson. Joe was born June 29, 1974 and raised in Minneapolis and Chicago. He graduated from University of St. Thomas in 1997 and Brown Institute in 1998. He was employed by the TSA at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport from 2002-2019, where he helped keep us all safe, cracked up his colleagues, and collected stories of the strange things people pack in their suitcases (fish?). Joe was a kind and gentle soul. He had a fierce intelligence and a delightful wit. He was a collector of many things. He loved video games, movies, and Transformers. He was intensely knowledgeable on many subjects from My Little Pony to military history. He took apart computers and put them back together again. He loved his dogs, Blue and Romy and Monday pizza-and-movie night with his parents. Joe is survived by his loving parents, Jeffrey and Rosemary Schwedes; sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Akshay Mahajan; nieces, Anjali and Maya; aunts and uncles, Casey Quinn and Allen McNee, Trish and David Lanphier, JoAnn and Michael Carbery, Judy Schwedes, Hank and Connie Schwedes, Mark and Dale Schwedes, John Patterson and Michele Demarest, and Sue Patterson; as well as many cousins and friends. There will be a memorial service for Joe this Thursday, January 10 at 11 am, with visitation beginning at 10 am, at Washburn-McReavy Edina. Joe loved dogs and animals of all kinds. We got our two family dogs, Blue and Romy, from MHS.
Autism Society of Minnesota (AUSM)
Joe was diagnosed with high-functioning Autism in his twenties. This organization was very helpful and supportive to him and to my parents.
