Baker, Barbara Anne (Brooke) Age 89, of Edina, MN, formerly of Spokane, WA and Peoria, AZ, passed away peacefully at home with family at her side Monday, June 4. Preceded in death by her parents, Agnes Miller Brooke and Philip Slaughter Brooke; brothers, Robert and Philip, Jr.; and grandson, Ian Buie. Barbara received a B.A. from Stanford University and M.A. and Ed.S. degrees from St. Thomas University. She taught at the elementary through junior college levels and worked as an educational consultant for EMS and through her own company, Baker Research & Consulting. As lobbyist for the Association for Stable and Growing School Districts (ASGSD), she advocated for equity in education funding. Barbara met the love of her life, David, at their college freshman mixer. Together they raised four children, traveled extensively, participated in book clubs, were founding members of the cooperative North Shore Camp in Lutsen, MN, and were active members of their churches in Edina, MN, and Peoria, AZ. Barbara will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, David Mason Baker; children, John (Malee) Baker, Catherine (Gregory Sherrard) Baker, Carolyn Reser, and Susan (Brad) Buie; grandchildren Marissa, Corinne and Isabel Buie, Caroline and Veronica Sherrard, Matthew and Raquel Reser, and Matinee and Lalita Baker; and beloved dog Buddy. Services were held Saturday at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Edina, MN.
