Andrew McCain rallied from two strokes down in the final round, shooting a 2-under-par 70 to win the Minnesota State Open by a stroke over Clayton Rask at Mendakota Country Club.

McCain finished at 10-under-par 206, while Rask fired a final-round 73 to finish at 207.

''This win makes me feel better about the summer,'' McCain said. ''I've had some mediocre finishes but I haven't had a good week yet. I assumed one would come at some point — I didn't think it would come at a professional event," he said.

• Gophers softball star Sara Groenewegen pitched a six-hitter as host Canada defeated the United States 4-2 for its first Pan Am gold medal since 1983. Former Gophers Tori Dixon and Lauren Gibbemeyer also won gold for the U.S. in volleyball.

Dustin Crenshaw became the American Association's first 10-game winner, and the Saints had 17 hits in a 12-4 victory over Lincoln at CHS Field. Alonzo Harris had three RBI.

• Canterbury Park issued a statement in support of trainer McLean Robertson, who drew a 90-day suspension from the state racing commission for allegedly dosing a horse with a banned substance.

Track officials called it "a case of environmental contamination and not the deliberate use of an illegal drug," the statement said.
