See more of the story The same storm that will bring flooding rain to the southern Plains today will spread snow and ice across the central Plains through the end of the week. As the system presses through the Southeast Friday into Saturday, the mid-Atlantic will once again face a major winter storm.

Heavy snow will bury a swath from the Ohio River Valley to the storm-weary mid-Atlantic. Travel will become difficult if not impossible in towns and cities including Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York City, as snow piles up early this weekend.

Several inches of snow could blanket parts of southern New England before the storm sweeps out to sea during the latter half of the weekend.
