A Chanhassen dentist was told to brush up on his orthodontic skills and submit patient records for review after the Minnesota Board of Dentistry found he had provided substandard care to patients, according to a board order made public Tuesday. Joseph A. Fiedler failed to do comprehensive exams of seven patients and failed to adequately evaluate the patients' tooth models or x-rays before treatment, the order said. He also failed to take enough photographs of patients' mouths or to document progress adequately. Fiedler must submit 10 active-patient records to a monitoring company monthly for two years and must complete "12 hours of one-on-one instruction in orthodontics through the University of Minnesota."
