David Letterman should be ashamed of himself for not recognizing that the joke about Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter was in bad taste, very bad taste.
Anyone who had made the same or similar derogatory joke would have been taken off TV. Why was Letterman exempt from any censure? He should have, at least, been taken off his show for a month or lost his job as others have for similar offenses.
I rarely watch Letterman, but have since Leno is no longer on. I happened to watch the night he gave the first lame apology for the joke.
An apology does not seem very sincere when you continue to smirk through the whole apology. That was and will be the last time I ever watch Letterman again.
