A pickup truck driver lost control Wednesday morning in wintry conditions near Elk River, collided with a large truck heading the other way and was killed, officials said.

The crash occurred about 7:20 a.m. on northbound Hwy. 169 about a mile north of Elk River, the State Patrol said.

The patrol identified the pickup driver as Kimberly M. Woods, 41, of Milaca, Minn. She died at the scene, the patrol said.

Woods was heading south on slick Hwy. 169, "lost control, went through the median and into the oncoming northbound traffic," a statement from the patrol read.

The truck driver, Chad R. Toenyan, 47, of Big Lake, Minn., was not hurt, according to the patrol.

The crash closed northbound Hwy. 169 for much of the rest of the morning, as investigators collected evidence while the scene was cleared of debris.
