Is Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer trying to spiff up his rapport with journalists? Emmer on Friday named campaign guru Bill Walsh as his deputy campaign manager for communications. Walsh is taking a leave of absence from his role as communications director and federal liaison for the Minnesota Department of Education. "Bill is one of the most experienced campaign operatives in Minnesota today," Emmer said in a statement. "I'm pleased to add him to my team." Walsh helped with the campaigns of Gov. Tim Pawlenty and U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman in 2002. He's also served as communications director, deputy executive director and executive director of the Republican Party of Minnesota. Walsh, 44, lives in White Bear Lake with his three children.
