A motorist involved in an apparent "road rage" incident in Fridley sped off with his lights off Wednesday night, hit a parked truck and crashed into a tree, police said

Andrew O. Onsare, 33, of Brooklyn Park, was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in critical condition but had improved to fair Thursday, a hospital spokesman said.

"There seemed to be some kind of traffic dispute between drivers," said Fridley Police Capt. Bob Rewitzer. He said the other driver, Tou Lee, 26, wasn't injured.

Lee told police a Toyota Camry pulled in front of his car on East River Road, and Lee passed it. The Camry followed him to Main Street and tapped his bumper at 49th Avenue. Lee got out and walked toward the Camry, which took off.

Lee called police about 10:30 p.m. As they responded, they were diverted to an accident and found Onsare pinned inside a Camry. A witness said the Camry was speeding north on the University Avenue frontage road when it hit a parked truck, crashed through a chain-link fence and hit a tree by a dead end near Interstate 694.

Rewitzer said police saw no obvious signs of alcohol or drug use. He said Onsare probably would face charges at least for leaving an accident.
