Crews from the Minneapolis Fire Department are still on the scene of a fire that broke out late Wednesday in a commercial building near the University of Minnesota.
Firefighters responded to a call at 11:36 p.m. in a building at 2812 University Av. in Minneapolis' Prospect Park neighborhood, a fire department spokesman said.
The two-alarm fire caused extensive damage to the building which houses a child care, grocery market and an auto body shop. No one was injured, the spokesman said.
It was not immediately clear what sparked the spectacular blaze, which also toppled a radio tower and had University Avenue closed for several hours.
The street is open to traffic this morning.
The fire is under investigation.
