A new judge has been named to replace Michael V. Sovis, who retired after an arrest and guilty plea for drunken driving.

Gov. Mark Dayton has appointed Colleen Goggins King in the First Judicial District, where she will be based in Hastings.

King is a partner in the New Prague firm of Wornson, Goggins, Zard, Neisen, Morris & King. Her practice covers a wide range, including family law, criminal defense, estate planning, probate and civil litigation.

She has also been a part-time public defender in Scott, Dakota and McLeod counties.

King, who lives in New Prague, graduated from the College of St. Benedict and got her law degree from Hamline University.

The First Judicial District covers several south-metro and exurban counties: Carver, Dakota, Goodhue, Le Sueur, McLeod, Scott and Sibley.

Sovis, 64, of Apple Valley, sought retirement earlier this year after his DWI plea.
