turkey stats

Minnesota's spring turkey season opened Wednesday and runs through May 29, with eight separate hunting periods. About 40,000 hunters are expected to pursue gobblers.

• Hunter success last year was 30 percent, which is typical.

• Hunters killed 10,390 turkeys last spring, down about 1,000 from 2012. A late spring likely hurt the harvest.

• The record kill in the state occurred in 2010, when 46,000 hunters bagged 13,467 birds.
