Before moving to Minnesota, he worked for daily newspapers in Michigan, Montana, Illinois and New York. His longest stint was nearly 20 years at the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle in New York. His wife, Cathy Roberts, is a team leader in business at the Star Tribune.
