A three-vehicle crash in Blaine that injured seven people, five of them seriously, was caused by one of the drivers speeding and crossing into oncoming traffic, police said Friday.
The collision occurred Thursday afternoon along Radisson Road near Tournament Players Parkway and involved one car with five people and two SUVs. The five in the car were hospitalized with serious injuries, and the lone occupants in the SUVs were hospitalized with noncritical injuries.
The driver of the car, a woman from Coon Rapids, was heading south of Radisson "at a high rate of speed," crossed the median and hit a northbound SUV head-on, police said. The northbound vehicle was then struck by another SUV.
The speed limit on that stretch of the four-lane road is 50 miles per hour.
Passengers in the car included two women, one from Blaine and the other from Coon Rapids, and two boys from Blaine.
The SUV struck head-on was driven by a woman from Oak Grove. A woman from Ham Lake was driving the other SUV.
Police have yet to release identities of any of the vehicles' occupants.
