A company selling caskets and funeral urns to veterans door-to-door in the metro area may be using a misleading sales pitch, according to an alert issued by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) last month. The BBB said Missouri-based U.S. Patriot Services provides literature that claims it is "Veterans Serving Veterans" but the business failed to respond to a request to back up the claim. The company's website offers "burial benefits" that "include a gravesite in any national cemetery." The BBB pointed out that only the government can provide that benefit, which is free to eligible veterans. The company charged a metro-area resident more than double a competitor's price for an urn, said the BBB, which cautioned customers to get several bids.
