5 OTHER HALLOWEEN GIGS THAT ARE WORTH DRESSING UP FOR
A lot of good bands are playing tonight -- one of the busiest bar nights of the year -- but these are especially in the holiday spirit:
Screaming Mechanical Brain: WookieFoot isn't the only freak show of a band celebrating its 10th anniversary tonight. This wild-eyed funk-metal band -- think Faith No More with a little goth and industrial -- headlines over four other bands at the all-ages, booze-less Burnsville venue that spawned it a decade ago. (6 p.m., the Garage, $10).
El Guante: Another free, all-ages gig, this one is based on the slam-champ rappers' recent CD "Haunted Studio Apartment," which wasn't really spooky except for how compelling some tracks were. It's part of KFAI's "Minnesota Soundtrack" series, so tune in to 90.3 or 106.7 FM at 7:30 p.m. for the warmup. (9 p.m., Acadia Cafe. Free.)
All the Pretty Horses, Gay Witch Abortion: What other holiday could bring back Minneapolis' original gender-bending metal band, which has mostly been on hiatus while leader Venus DeMars focused on solo gigs? And here's hoping GWA, the loudest and heaviest rock duo around, also has a reunion -- with its flying-monkey suits. (10 p.m., 331 Club. Free.)
E.L.nO., Little Man: Any cover band that regularly wears wigs deserves a gig on Halloween, but it's also the one night fans can hide their faces while singing along to every word in "Xanadu" or "Boy Blue." The real treat, though, may be Little Man's tribute to T. Rex. That means opening DJ Mary Lucia might not get to play a Marc Bolan song for a change. (9 p.m., Lee's Liquor Lounge. $10.)
Zebulon Pike, Heroine Sheiks, Seawhores: No costumes or gimmicks, just three bands with loud and harrowing music. (10 p.m., Turf Club. $7.)
