President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit a Burnsville truck and equipment company on Monday for a roundtable discussion on tax cuts and the U.S. economy.
Trump will appear at Nuss Truck & Equipment "to tout the success of the American economy under his pro-growth policies, including the implementation of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act," according to a White House news release.
Monday is the day tax filings for 2018 are due to the federal government.
The event will mark Trump's first official White House visit to Minnesota, though he did appear at two political rallies in the state in 2018, in Rochester and Duluth. It's also his first public appearance in the Twin Cities since becoming president.
Campaign finance records show that the owners of Nuss Trucking & Equipment donated about $15,000 to state and national Republican candidates in the last election cycle, including contributions to several Minnesota congressional candidates.
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, a Democratic candidate for president, plans to hold a news conference Sunday in Minneapolis in anticipation of Trump's visit.
Klobuchar dinged Trump on Friday in a video posted on Twitter, saying she hoped he'd release his tax returns on Monday. Trump has resisted doing so despite intensifying efforts by Democrats in Congress to obtain them.
On Friday night, Trump tweeted a video that juxtaposes shots of Minnesota Democratic U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar talking in Los Angeles last month about the Council on American-Islamic Relations with footage of the 9/11 terror attacks. Trump headlined the tweet "WE WILL NEVER FORGET!"
In response to similar attacks on Omar, her supporters have pointed out that the full text of her speech reveals that she was talking about Muslims being unfairly labeled as terrorists and was expressing concern that anti-Islamic bias endangers their civil rights.
