The driver of a pickup truck is dead after his vehicle collided with a semitrailer truck on a northwestern Minnesota highway Wednesday afternoon.

Jacob Paul Gappa, 30, of Parkers Prairie, was driving east on Hwy. 210 when he entered the westbound lane and collided with a semitrailer truck near the intersection of German Lake Road on the outskirts of Underwood, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

Gappa was not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred a few minutes before 5 p.m. He was taken to Lake Regions Hospital, where he died, the patrol said.

The semi truck driver, Michael Mallak, 45, of Melrose, Minn., was also taken to Lake Regions Hospital with noncritical injuries. He was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation.
