Catherine Ann (Merriman) Cosby

Cosby (Merriman), Catherine Anne (aka; Catherine Annie, Cath, Lovey, Cathy, Merrililly, Cat, Kitty Cat) is so fondly remembered for her joyous spirit, contagious full-throated laughter, beautiful smile and sparkly blue eyes, and hysterical sense of humor. Some of her more personal talents include: the giggle butt; master eructater; crazy eyes; and Cath-isms! What a blessing if you were ever lucky enough to be called a Dorkus Minganorkus Maximusio. You would be hard pressed to be around Catherine and not have a smile on your face. She was a creative, fun loving, ebullient, and caring person!!! A people magnet, she was truly a gift to all who met her. Catherine, 54, passed away peacefully at 10:16 p.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Born Catherine Anne Merriman on Nov. 1, 1960 in San Diego, CA, she grew up in Minneapolis, MN where she lived since the age of four. She had a passion for photography and received a degree in photo journalism. After moving to California in 1998, she worked as director of sales for a stock photography company. She deeply loved animals, especially dogs, elephants and primates, and volunteered her time at a Los Angeles rescue organization called Karma Rescue. Her most prized accomplishment was graduating as a Spiritual Practitioner from the Agape International Spiritual Center in Los Angeles, CA. Catherine was diagnosed with brain cancer in Jan. of 2007. In 2010, after three grueling years of cancer treatments, she moved back home to MN to live out the rest of her time on this earth surrounded by her family. Though she just recently entered hospice, Catherine passed due to injuries sustained from a fall. This is important to note because we can never know when or from what we will be called home. Please cherish every moment and person around you. In honor of our dear beloved Catherine, we ask that you never let a day go by without saying "I love you"! She is survived by her mother, Marianne; sister, Joanie; brothers, Stephen and wife Kim, Gregory, and Phil; seven nieces and nephews, Jessica, Phillip, Garth, Danielle, Sydnie, Nicholas, and Katelyn; and two great-nephews, Brody and Calvin. Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, we are that still. Call me by all the old familiar names. Speak of me in the easy way which you always have. Please, put no difference in your tone. Wear no air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed. Play, smile, and think of me. Let my name be ever the household word that is always was. Let it be spoken without effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. In a brief moment, all will be as it was before. Oh, how we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again. All is well. A traditional mass will be held at the Basilica of St. Mary on Friday, August 14, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Father John Bauer. There will be a one hour visitation prior and a reception afterwards. The Celebration of Life Party for Catherine will take place the afternoon/evening of Saturday, August 14 at the Hamel Community Center. More details about this program will follow via caringbridge.org/visit/ catherinecosby. Contributions in memory of Catherine will be used to assist her sister Joanie Merriman in transitioning to a new way of life without Catherine. 8000 29th Avenue N, New Hope, MN 55427.
