Chester G. 'Chet' Witz

Witz, Chester G. "Chet" Age 79 of Eagan, MN, passed away July 3, 2015 having fought valiantly and courageously against cancer for three years. He was born in 1936 at home on the family farm in Kalavala Township, Barnum, MN during one of the coldest winters ever recorded in Minnesota. He carried his love for the farm and John Deere tractors to the day he died. He graduated from Cromwell High School and went on to study the carpenter's trade at St. Paul Technical College. A member of the Carpenters and Joiners Union for over 40 years, he worked on many buildings in the Twin Cities, and was the Superintendent on the Galtier Plaza project. He spent the last years of his career as Director of Building and Grounds at St. Croix Lutheran High School in West St. Paul where he headed up the renovation of their second building when they expanded in 1992. He served on the SCLHS chapel committee from its inception to completion several years ago. It was his children's wish to honor their beloved father by holding his funeral at St. Croix Lutheran School, knowing that his heart was here on this campus. Chet was preceded in death by grandparents Charles and Amelia (Busse) Witz; parents Anna Laila (Peura) and Arthur B. Witz. Chet leaves behind his loving wife, Sylvia Nelson Witz; his children Leanne (Rev Dan) Reich; Lisa (Jeff) Melson; Craig (Heidi) Witz; their mother, Evelyn Witz; step-son Jeffrey (Darica) Nelson; 8 grandchildren David, Nathan & Jacob Reich; Erin, Jeb Melson; Veronica, Evan, & Merina Witz; sisters Eleanor (Daniel) Breister; Virginia Sergot (Jim Boyer); & Annabelle Oakes of Panama City, Florida. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, in addition to many beloved cousins and their families. Chet will be fondly remembered as a member of Crown of Life Lutheran Church. He loved the Eagan campus. Chet's funeral will be on Saturday, July 11 in the chapel at St. Croix Lutheran School, 1200 Oakdale Ave., West St. Paul, MN 55118 at 10:30 am with visitation 1 hr prior, 9:30-10:30 am. Visitation will also be the night before, Friday, July 10, 4-7 pm at Klecatsky's Funeral Home, 1580 Century Point, (off Yankee Doodle Rd.) Eagan, MN 55121. Lunch will be served immediately following the service in the school commons, followed by a funeral procession to Acacia Park Cemetery, Mendota Heights, MN.
