Mankey, Dr. James C. Age 97 of Bloomington, MN, died peacefully on May 25th. Preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Margaret (Moudry), son Michael, and his Chilean daughter, Olga. Dr. Mankey exhibited the same campassion, support and unconditional love in his parenting as he did with his patients. He became Margaret's primary caregiver for years prior to her death in 2010, and referred to her as his "everloving bride" on the day of his death. Survived by children, Merodie (Don) Johnson, daughter-in-law, Carol Mankey (Jack) Huesby, Molly Mankey, Mark (Susan) Mankey, Margo (Harry M.D.) Hoppmann, Martin (Diane) Mankey M.D., and Matthew (Kate) Mankey, Esq.; 19 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Dr. Mankey was proud of his service to the country as a Navy physician in the Pacific Theater during WW II and took great pride in caring for the wounded. Founder of Southwest Internists P.A. In his 40 years of practice, Dr. Mankey served as President and Chairman of the Board of Hennepin County Medical Society, Vice-President and Treasurer of Minnesota County Medical Foundation, President of the U. of M. Medical School Alumini Assoc., President of Hennepin County Medical Foundation and the Minnesota Chapter of the American Society of Internal Medicine. Upon retirement he served as a consultant for the State of Minnesota reviewing disablility evaluations and as a member of the Executive Committee of Hennepin County Medical Society Senior Physicians Association. He was honored in 1991 with the Bolles-Bolles-Rogers Award which is presented to physicians whose contributions to medicine make him an outstanding example of the profession. Dr. Mankey attended the University of St. Thomas and the University of Minnesota Medical School. He served on the Board of Trustees for the College of St. Catherine and was a Clinical Associate Professor of medicine at the U. of M. for many years. An avid sports fan and season ticket holder for the Vikings, North Stars and his beloved Gophers, he held season tickets to Gopher football for 66 years. Thanks to his grandson, Mark, he was able to attend Gopher games through the 2014 season. Dr. Mankey was a resident of Friendship Village for many years, where he received excellent care and made many friends among the residents and staff. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, June 1, 2015, 11 AM at the Church of Christ the King, 5029 Zenith Ave. So. with visitation one hour prior to mass. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery.
