Scott Lyman Carlquist

Carlquist, Scott Lyman age 55, of Minneapolis, MN, died of ALS on May 25, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Dale Carlquist. He is survived by wife Monica Murphy and daughter Catherine Carlquist (age 8), brothers Dale (Kari) and Matthew, and red haired nephew Gideon (age 6). Scott grew up in a variety of small Midwestern towns: Kelso ND, Long Prairie and Oklee MN, Colby WI, and Spicer MN. He graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a degree in Economics before beginning a 30-year career in the printing industry. He was proud to direct Customer Service and Supply Chain efforts at Smyth Companies the past 11 years. A second career highlight was earlier leading Customer Service and Estimating at Japs-Olson Company for ten years. Between those two stints, he was able to take a sabbatical and study full time - earning an MBA in operations management from the U of M's Carlson School. While a graduate student he was the teaching assistant (TA) for Financial Statement Analysis, serving under the late professor Charlie Caliendo. He enjoyed his TA role and continued for two years after graduating. Scott was once described as, "Still waters run deep" and true to form, he was an introvert who appreciated thoughtful discussion and interesting people and ideas. He was a man of strong ethics and character and believed in treating all people fairly. These traits suited his role in management well where he was respected by all those who worked with him. His passions were spending time with Monica and Catherine and his job, where he most enjoyed helping co-workers and clients in any way he could. He long wore Red Wing work shoes, drank black coffee, enjoyed Heineken lager, and blew snow off neighbors' walks because he was already out and the Toro 824XL was fired up. A proud Lutheran who worshiped weekly at the Basilica of St. Mary, Scott's faith played a central part in his life. He will be greatly missed and remembered in numerous ways. Rest in peace dear Scott. We love you. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 29th at The Basilica of St. Mary, Hennepin Ave at 17th St. Minneapolis. Visitation one hour prior to service at church. Private Interment Lakewood Cemetery.
