David R. Peterson

Peterson, David R. Age 77, of Apple Valley, passed away peacefully at home on May 19, 2015, sur-rounded by family. Born on October 17, 1937. Dave grew up in Zumbrota, MN and graduated in 1959 from St. Olaf College where he sang in the St. Olaf choir. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the US Air Force. He was on active duty in the Air Force for eight years, and continued his service in the Minnesota Air National Guard until 1982 when he retired as a Lt. Colonel. He also flew as a pilot for Northwest Airlines for 26 years, retiring as a Captain on the DC-10 on Dec. 31, 1992. Dave enjoyed golf, reading, Barbershop quartets, his shared ownership of Dakota Slew (1986 MN race horse of the year), a vacation home in Arizona, and his cat, Mayday. He especially enjoyed spending time with friends at the Fort Snelling Officer's Club and celebrating holidays with his extended family. Dave will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Lillian; daughter Ann (Greg) Hupperts; son Rob (Tracy) Peterson; grandchildren Alecia, John Hupperts; sisters Helen Nerison and Shirley (Fritz) Rodde; sister-in-law Barb Peterson; nine nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brothers Thomas, John and Herbert. A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 12650 Johnny Cake Ridge Road, Apple Valley, MN 55124 on Thursday, May 28th at 10:30 AM with visitation one hour prior. All are invited to join a motorcade processional leaving the church at 12:45 PM to attend the ceremony at Fort Snelling National Cemetery following the service.
