Gavzy, Max age 93 of Paterson, NJ died April 16, in Pompton Plains. Max was a bon vivant, raconteur, man-about-town, and world-class schmoozer. He was a happy warrior fighting for those he felt duty-bound to protect: his family, innumerable friends, native city, nation, the Jewish people, and Israel. He had his own insurance agency in Paterson. He served as a photographer during World War II and after the war helped smuggle arms to the nascent State of Israel. A philanthropist and talented photographer, Max gave money, time, and photos to many organizations in the US and Israel. Max loved painting, classical music, and was a top-seeded Jewish Geography player. He was also pretty handy for a Jewish guy. Max is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rita (nee Benjamin) and their children: Bill Gavzy of St. Paul and Deborah Gavzy Nedelman (Jerry) of Morris Plains, NJ. Max donated a kidney to his son Ike, who as a result had many decades of quality life before passing away three years ago. He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Jamie Kreiman, former daughter-in-law Catherine Breier, and grandchildren Arianna and Asher (fiancée Jaclyn Grossfield) of Mpls., Liza, Albert & Sam. Funeral 11 am Sun., Shoem's Menorah Chapel, Paramus, NJ.
