William H. Baird

Baird, William H. age 71, of Rosemount, passed away unexpectedly on February 26th, 2015. Bill was a humble man who loved fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family and military buddies. He was born on January 25, 1944, to Rose and Agur Baird. At the age of 18, Bill joined the US Army and served 4 years in the 249th Engineer Battalion in France and Germany where he met his future wife, Liliane Thommes. Bill worked for many years as a lineman for Northern States Power and served the remainder of his career as a Union Representative for IBEW Local 160. Bill was devoted to helping military veterans and served as President of the US Army 249th Engineers Battalion Association. God bless our Grandfather and welcome him through your gates. America has lost a great treasure. He was a soldier, a veteran, a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and our hero. He will be missed by all that had the honor of meeting him. To us, he was affectionately known as "Grumper." There is no possible way for us to sum up the greatness of his character and life into words but we can say that Heaven has a new angel and we have a new protector. We will always love you and strive to fill the everlasting legacy that you have left. Survived by his loving wife Liliane, two daughters Catherine (John) Cusack and Joan (David) Donati, and five grandchildren: Darby and Camden Cusack and Madalana, Nicolo and Isabella Donati. Private interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Doctors Without Borders or to The Wounded Warrior Project.
