George T. Zirnhelt

Zirnhelt, George T. loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. George Thomas Zirnhelt, age 69 of Lilydale, MN passed away on February 23rd, 2015. Founded Power Systems Research in 1976 and served as President and CEO. Other current business interests in Home Care Solutions, Streamworks LLC and Action Mailing UK as well as being a lifelong serial entrepreneur. Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and MBA - both from the University of Minnesota. George belonged to the Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem (former Lieutenant of the Northern Lieutenancy), Legatus, board member of Bethlehem University Foundation, Elizabeth Ann Seton Montessori School, Laboure Society and Chipotle Business Group as well as a regular volunteer at Our Lady of Peace home in St. Paul. Past organizations with leadership positions: DARTS, Red Cross, Grantsburg and Eagan Rotary, Minnesota Club, Church of St. Peter (Mendota). Survived by beloved wife of 47 years, Susan, daughter Sarah (Jason) Alt, sons Tony (Sarah) and Joe (Julie), grandchildren Maggie, Joe, Jane, Drew, Gus, Ben and newly born grandson Louis, sisters Kathy (Wee Tai), Jean (Chuck) and brother Tom (Vicki). George is preceded in death by his father Ray Zirnhelt and mother Anne Zirnhelt. George was born in 1945 in Red Wing, MN. As a natural leader, he touched everyone he met with his warm sense of humor and optimistic nature. Starting his career at age 8 with duties including a paper route and as an altar server, George took progressively larger roles in business by both founding and running many businesses from building campers to wheel loaders. George was never short of ideas and energy. His vision and determination built Power Systems Research literally from his basement office to a well respected, multi-national consulting organization. Despite his tireless commitment to his work and colleagues, it was his family that gave him the most satisfaction in life. With his wife Sue, he traveled the world and shared a loving 47 years of marriage. To his children and grandchildren, George was an exemplary role model on how to live a life of balance - faith, love, family, work and fun. He will never be forgotten. His legacy will guide us all for years to come. Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM Monday, March 2, 2015 at St. Peter's Catholic Church (1405 Hwy 13, Mendota Heights). Visitation 4-8 PM Sunday evening at O'Halloran & Murphy Funeral Home (575 S. Snelling Ave., St. Paul) 651-698-0796 and one hour prior to Mass at church Monday. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery.
