Hanschen, Leonard Norman Living in Chico, California since 1998 Leonard Norman Hanschen passed away at Roseleaf Gardens, Chico, on February 17, 2015 at the age of 95. Born March 15, 1919, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to John and Christine Hanschen, Leonard grew up there, graduating from North High. He served overseas in World War II as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He married Ruth Austad in 1948 and they had four children. Leonard was predeceased by Ruth in 2011, his parents, and his siblings John, Harvey, Robert, Evelyn and Delores. He will be missed by his children and their families John (Carolyn), Craig (Tammy), Christine (Phil), Timothy (Lori) and also 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was beloved by many nieces and nephews who considered Leonard and Ruth very special, including Diane, Judy, Joel and Marnee, who survive them. Leonard was employed by the United States Postal Service for over 30 years at the Camden Station and also served as Superintendent/Station Manager at the Coon Rapids and Robbinsdale Post Offices. After retirement, he started a seven year career with Minnesota Title Company. Leonard was a tremendous athlete-he boxed and played golf, basketball and softball, and he was a superior card and cribbage player. He mastered the most difficult crossword puzzles, and enjoyed reading books and newspapers. He loved traveling with Ruth to see family and friends in North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Hawaii, Texas, Oklahoma, California, Montana, Canada, and Germany, and he enjoyed his last family reunion in 2012. After living in the north for most of his life, Leonard spent his last retirement years in the temperate climate of Chico, near daughter Chris and her family. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Family of God Lutheran Church, 8625 Zane Ave, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, followed by a luncheon at the church, and burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
