Ellen (Rask) Buckmiller

Buckmiller, Ellen Rask Was born in the Opstead Community in Eastside Township, Mille Lacs County to Axel & Hulda Forsberg Rask on July 5, 1914. She attended North School for 7 years then went to Isle High School graduating in 1932. Ellen roomed with three girls from Isle and attended St. Cloud Teachers' College graduating in 1934. She was hired to teach Central School for 7 years. On March 21, 1942 Ellen married Herbert Buckmiller from Staples, MN. Herbert was drafted into the US Army in May of 1942. During the war years Ellen taught at Wakkon, MN. When Herbert returned in 1946 they moved to Duluth, MN where they lived for 30 years. Two children were born there - Karen Ellen and H. Bruce Buckmiller. When the children were in school Ellen went to the University of Minnesota, Duluth graduating in 1960. She taught in the Duluth Public Schools at Stowe School for 16 years retiring in 1976. In 1976 the Buckmillers moved back to Ellen's home community across from her home farm where she was born. In 1989 they bought a home in Robbinsdale to be close to their children and grandchildren. In 1990 they joined the Olivet United Methodist Church. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert and her son, H. Bruce and her sister, Garda and brothers, Gosta, Runar and Philip. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Ellen; grandsons, Skip (Merla) and Ryan; great grandson, Bruce; several nephews and nieces and many friends. Funeral service Saturday, 10 am at Olivet United Methodist Church, 3620 43rd Ave. N., Robbinsdale, with visitation beginning at 9 am at church. Interment Crystal Lake Cemetery.
